Jeder hat ein bisschen Lametta verdient!

«Früher war mehr Lametta», beschwert sich der berühmte deutsche Komiker Loriot im ebenfalls berühmten Sketch «Weihnachten bei Hoppenstedts». Das stimmt, und alle, die – wie ich – als Kinder Lametta als Baumschmuck erlebt haben, werden sich an den besonderen Glanz erinnern, der von einem Baum mit Lametta ausging.

«Avant, on mettait plus de lamé», déplore le célèbre humoriste allemand Loriot dans son tout aussi célèbre sketch «Noël chez les Hoppenstedt». C’est vrai et tous ceux qui ont connu les sapins de Noël enrubannés de guirlandes en lamé se souviennent de l’éclat incomparable dont ils rayonnaient.

Everyone deserves a bit of tinsel!

In his well-known sketch “Christmas at the Hoppenstedts”, the famous German comedian Loriot complained that “There used to be more tinsel”. It’s true! If you, like me, remember tinsel on the Christmas tree as a child, you will also remember the special splendour of a tree decorated with tinsel.

Der Begriff Lametta stammt übrigens aus dem Italienischen und bedeutet «Metallblättchen». Lametta wurde 1610 in Nürnberg erfunden und steht symbolisch für die Eiszapfen an Winterbäumen.

Die Tatsache, dass Lametta, wie wir es im deutschen Sprachraum hatten, in England und Frankreich (mit Ausnahme weniger Regionen) nicht gebräuchlich war, veran-schaulicht, wie komplex der Transfer von einer Sprache in eine andere manchmal sein kann.

Le lamé ou lametta est à l’origine un terme italien désignant une décoration formée de franges de métal. Le lametta a été inventé à Nuremberg en 1610 et représente symboliquement les stalactiques que la glace forme sur les arbres en hiver.

Le fait que le « lametta » , très fréquent dans l'espace germanophone, n'était pas utilisé en Angleterre ou en France (à l'exception de quelques régions) mais est normalement traduit comme « guirlandes de Noël » illustre à quel point le transfert d'une langue à une autre peut parfois être complexe.

The German word for ‘tinsel’ (‘lametta’)) comes from Italian and means ‘small blades’. ‘lametta’ was invented in Nuremberg in 1610 and symbolises the icicles on trees in wintertime.

‘Lametta’, as it was used in the German-speaking world, was not common in England or France (with the exception of a few regions) but is usually translated as ‘tinsel’ . This illustrates how complex the transfer from one language to another can sometimes be.

Wir hängen heute zwar aus Umweltgesichtspunkten kein Lametta mehr an den Baum. Das bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass wir auf Lametta-Bäume verzichten müssen. Deshalb findet sich unten eine kleine Bastelanleitung mit der sich jede und jeder ein bisschen Lametta in die gute Stube zaubern kann.



Basteln ist ja auch eine besinnliche Tätigkeit, bei der man seine Gedanken nochmals über das letzte Jahr – mit seinen Herausforderungen, aber auch Glanzpunkten – schweifen lassen kann.

Bastelanleitung

1. Im Internet suchen: Weihnachtsbaum mit Lametta.

2. Bild(er) auf Fotopapier ausdrucken.

3. Silbergarn daran befestigen.

4. Fertig.

Nous n’utilisons plus de guirlandes en lamé pour décorer notre sapin de Noël (pour leur teneur en plomb) mais nous pouvons respecter l’environnement sans pour autant nous priver de son éclat. Les instructions qui suivent permettent à tous ceux qui le souhaitent de ramener dans leur salon un échantillon de la magie des décors en lamé.

Ce petit travail de bricolage permet aussi de laisser libre cours à ses pensées et de revenir sur l’année écoulée avec ses défis mais aussi ses moments les plus brillants.

Instructions :

1. Sur Internet, cherchez dans les images un sapin de Noël + guirlande en lamé.
2. Imprimez l’image sur du papier photo.
3. Fixez un fil argenté pour l’accrocher.
4. Et c’est tout.

For environmental reasons, we no longer put ‘lametta’ tinsel on the tree (as it contained lead), but that doesn’t mean we have to do without!

2. Print out the image(s) on photo-quality paper.
3. Attach the silver thread.
4. Done!

Übrigens: Der Baum oben links ist der Baum, der im Hauptbahnhof Zürich steht. Er ist auch gar nicht mit Lametta geschmückt, sondern mit Kristall-schmuck, der ebenfalls an Eiszapfen erinnert.

Petit clin d'œil : le sapin en haut à gauche est celui de la gare centrale de Zurich. Il n'est pas non plus décoré de guirlandes de lamé, mais de cristaux qui rappellent également les stalactites de glace.

By the way: The tree at the top left is the tree that stands in Zurich's main station. It is not decorated with tinsel, but with crystal ornaments that also resemble icicles.
